HIS Server Software Bundle

HIS Server is a computer server with a collection of databases, web services, tools and front-end applications that allow an investigator to store, publish and analyze observation data. The server is designed to permit local control of the data, while still being part of a distributed national/international system allowing universal access to the data. While there are numerous configurations and add-ons that can be used to create an HIS Server, the project team has tested the following configurations for use with the CUAHSI-HIS system:

Standard Version

Lite Version

^Top

HIS Server Lite is a version of the CUAHSI-HIS Server where the commercial software requirements have been minimized, while still allowing data to be stored and published within the CUAHSI-HIS system. HIS Server Lite does not include a web client interface (such as DASH), but it does support data storage through the Observations Data Model (ODM), and data publishing with web services.

Install the following commercial software:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional or Microsoft Windows 2003 Server — must be purchased
    • Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) — comes as part of XP Professional or 2003 Server, but is not installed as part of the default operating system install, and so usually must be installed separately; installation instructions
  • Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 — free download
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express — free download; installation instructions

Install the following CUAHSI-HIS components:

  • ODM Database — Database schema into which you will load your observations data.
  • WaterOneFlow Web Services — Web services that can be configured to publish data from your ODM database.
  • ODM Data Loader — General purpose tool for loading observations data from CSV or MS Excel files into an ODM database.
  • ODM Streaming Data Loader — Tool for loading observations data from LoggerNet text files or other sensor data into an ODM database.
  • ODM Tools — Tool for querying, visualizing, and editing data in an ODM database. This application also includes functionality for updating the Controlled Vocabulary tables in your ODM databases.
